Fiddler Crab by Marion Smith

Recently Jennifer(my daughter) and I took a walk along Delray Beach.  We were strolling on the sidewalk adjacent to the ocean when she looked down and saw a fiddler crab scurrying across the sidewalk directly in front of us. This was the smallest crab I had ever seen — about the size of my thumbnail.

She wanted to protect this little fellow and tried to pick it up and place it in a safer area.  When she attempted this, he automatically raised his front claws, and his pincers began to work and work; to protect himself. His natural instincts kicked in when he felt threatened, and he tried his best to guard himself.

When I feel threatened or afraid, do I act in the flesh as this little crab had done?  Or do I rely on the power of God to rescue and lead me? God has promised over and over again in His Word that He is our rescuer and guide.  We must always put our trust in Him, for His love for us is never failing and I know He has our best interest uppermost in His mind.

Meditation: “I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.’ Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the perilous pestilence. He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler.” – Psalm 91:2-4
